Looking to return to work?

Returning to work after a period of absence can be overwhelming. Whether you’ve been ill, made redundant or you’re looking to re-enter the job market, we can help you find resources and services that can get you back into work safely.

What support can I get with returning to work after illness?

It’s understandable if you feel anxious about returning to work after a period of sick leave. Fortunately, there is support you can receive which can help in alleviating these worries.

  • Speak to your employer about any adjustments that could help you when you return to work. These can include a phased return to work, flexible hours and additional breaks. Employers are bound by the law to make ‘reasonable adjustments’ for those with a disability, long-term physical or mental health condition.
  • Contact an independent body that can offer advice and support if you have concerns about returning to work. The Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS) have a helpline you can contact on 0300 123 1100.
  • If you are unemployed and want to return to work, a work coach at your local Jobcentre Plus can support you with this.
  • The Space can refer you to organisations ready to help you get back into work; we’re also here to listen to any concerns or anxieties you might have.
