A safe space in Croydon

In partnership with the Mind in Croydon, Croydon BME Forum and NHS South London and Maudsley (SLaM) Trust, we’re here to provide mental health support to the Croydon community, in-person and online.

We aim to provide better access to Community and Clinical Support within Croydon and are designed for people who have not previously engaged with support, including global majority communities and for people who would fall through the gaps of traditional mental health support.

What the Space is here for

In order to be mentally and physically well, it’s essential that we get the support we need for our finances, housing, employment, and education when we need it. We understand everyone’s situation is unique, so this is not an exhaustive list; these are the most common types of support provided:

Mental Health and Wellbeing Support – From light touch conversations about emotional good health to connecting you with our on-site Clinical Psychology team, and with Recovery Space crisis support as well as supporting access to Croydon Talking Therapies, and providing coping skills, advice and guidance.

Housing – Helping you understand and navigate housing and homelessness applications, repairs, and home swap systems. Signposting to specific housing support organisations.

Finance – Connecting you with specialist welfare benefits support such as Mind in Croydon’s Welfare Benefits Advice Team or our DWP drop in and signposting to debt advice, financial advisory services and employment Support.

Domestic Abuse – Connecting with relevant support for anyone experiencing any form of domestic abuse, financial, emotional, physical, sexual or coercive behavior.

Form filling guidance – Helping you manage the anxiety of filling out forms, we will break down each form into manageable chunks, clearly explain what is needed for each form and provide check ins to support you with your applications. Common forms we help understand are PIP applications and renewal, Carers Allowance, Blue Badge and Council Tax support.

We also hold one off and a rolling program of workshops, and groups such as social groups with a wellbeing focus. Please click here to see what’s on each month.

The partnership

The Croydon Health and Wellbeing Space is the collaborative product of Mind in Croydon, Croydon BME Forum, South West London ICB.

Mind in Croydon was founded in 1967 as a charity dedicated to helping people with mental health issues. Since then, their efforts have been dedicated to providing high-quality and expert services to well over 1500 people every year.

Croydon Black Minority Ethnic Forum, popularly known as Croydon (BME) Forum is the umbrella organisation for Croydon’s black and global majority voluntary and community sector. Some of the work done is centred around engaging people, building capacity, and promoting equality and cohesion for this group.

The NHS ICB is responsible for the planning and commissioning of health services for people living in the borough of Croydon. The ICB ensures that the Croydon community benefits from convenient and high-quality healthcare services whenever they need them.
