Windrush 75 Year Anniversary Celebration

Last month we celebrated National Windrush Day (22 June) marking 75 years since the MV Empire Windrush arrived in the UK. The Windrush generation are the original pioneers who came from across the Caribbean and helped to rebuild the nation following the Second World War, and they and their descendants continue to contribute to all aspects of British life.

Croydon BME Forum: “It was an honour for Croydon BME Forum to host alongside Croydon Minster, for a special Windrush Day service of thanksgiving and celebration.

This year was extra special, as we marked Windrush 75 – the 75th anniversary of the Empire Windrush passenger liner arriving in Great Britain. Croydon is proud to be home to one of the largest Black Caribbean communities in the UK, and Windrush Day is an opportunity for us all to celebrate the Windrush generation and their legacy.

Our Caribbean Influencers exhibition at The Museum of Croydon honours our Caribbean residents’ past and present, and their rich contribution to every aspect of life in our borough. Do check out Caribbean Influencers if you haven’t already – part of our London Borough of Culture celebrations, it’s on at the museum until 21 July 2023”

You can find more photos of the event on Croydon BME Forum’s website. This fun, educational, celebratory event was full of workshops, exhibitions and food!
